For several years South Winds Farm has
offered a Life Management Skills Program in conjunction with our training for
those interested. It has received exceptional and very enthusiastic responses
from everyone involved.
We have seen the positive effects it has had on
numerous individuals in every aspect of their lives from their attitudes and
behavior at home, their work ethic and grades at school to their ability and
willingness to communicate. Our Life Management Skills Program is a fun
and positive way to instill all of these qualities.
Psychologists have proven that the tools learned
for basic riding skills are the same tools needed to build a successful life.
As stated by Dr. Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence...
"Emotional Intelligence includes
self-awareness and impulse control, persistence, zeal, and self-motivation,
empathy and social deftness. These are the qualities that mark people who
excel in real life." These are also the qualities learned from the horse.
With our horses our students have learned
communication, confidence, responsibility, discipline, tenacity, persistence,
initiative and an overall better attitude toward life. In our Life Management
Skills Program, we take it a step further and teach the student how to use
these characteristics learned from the horse and apply them to everyday life.
Our methods include positive enforcement,
motivational conversations and a small weekly assignment that consists of
helping the parents with the responsibilities at home. Even though this
program is entirely voluntary, we are excited about reaching as many students
possible and would love to extend our enthusiasm to you.
Rest assured this program is free of charge to
any of those interested in participating. It is our way of helping our parents
and our students toward a brighter future. We invite suggestions from everyone
so that we can help each of you on an individual basis. |
